I used to yell at my kids... "Stop that!", "Don't touch that!", and "Get over here!" were staples of my parenting "style." It was very effective the first few times, but became less and less as time went on.
I then went on to embarrassment, which is my absolute favorite parenting trick. When I was embarrassing my kids in front of their friends I really felt I was an active participant in their lives. Their friends would laugh and the child would stop the behavior. I would often say, "You cannot avoid scarring your kids. My goal is to be surgical so that they do better than I did." But that lost its "mojo" as well as my beloved offspring became immune to embracement and I ran out of ideas.
In the end, having a discussion with my kids was the best way. A discussion where I was asking questions trying to understand their motivation and reasoning that lead to the situation they found themselves in. Eventually I wasn't condescending, it's hard not to do after the embarrassment phase. Once my kids realized I was making an effort to understand them and they had a safe space to tell me the truth things got much better.
My hope is that the SJW's who have pushed Cancel Culture will get past the yelling and embarrassment phase and find that discussing with respect is the best way to get their point across. Unfortunately I think we will continue to see them in the phase I never got to with my kids, violence. The riots and violence is the tool of tyrannical groups like the Marxists, communists, fascists, and anarchists.
As Comix Division said in his latest Chris Pratt video... it's just sad...
